My work

"Good job"

submission: My work
date: March 8, 2006

I liked how you started it off... great editing and action that really matched the music.
Some sections of your movie looked very close in quality to xiao xiao's animations... which should be applauded.
Your stick work is great... I started off with sticks too... now all you need to do is apply all your physics/timing knowledge into full bodies animations = )

Good luck.

"why hasn't anybody noticed?"

submission: O.N.E.
date: October 30, 2005

Anybody who has used the program D-Player will know what I'm talking about, and the author of this piece will cringe when he realises that he's been BUSTED!! But the animation... the dancing at least was not the awesome choreogphy and 3d-tweening of this author. He simply traced it from the dance sequences that you can download and playback (at any viewing angle) in the program D-Player.

But cheating aside, you still obviously spent HEAPS of time tracing it so I give you credit for that. And it still did look pretty.

Alot of people are complaining about the choice of songs... but I mean... I guess you didn't have a huge assortment of dancing routines to trace so you were kinda limited in that area weren't you?

The whole "Music is the universal language" concept was a good idea but as many people have pointed out...it was poorly executed. It was also inconsistent with the choice of songs. Poor art direction.

Look, in the end I wouldn't have cared so much that you traced it, but you should've made sure that the movie theme and story being told was absolutely spot-on. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. It seemed too much like all you were doing was having a blast tracing all these dancing moves and then at the end you decided you wanted to add some meaning behind it all and thought hey! Music is a universal language!

5 points for the effort though.

KAZAHANA: Face To Face

"most impressive"

date: October 16, 2005

It's good to see that you have a wide range of animations... xin session, surface and now this. I think the visuals could've been improved but b/c the story was so engaging... it made up for it. I like your characters and scripting for this piece. Some of the dialogue was a bit iffy but I'm glad you steered away from the cliche of the dood wanting to 'do' the girl near the end. It's better that you ended it like that. (although at that particular point of the movie, i was thinking...ah.. if she's a top assasin and she had a shotgun pointed at her, couldn't she quickly flick the gun to the side & move her head away from the bulls eye of the gun!?!) haha doesn't matter.

Great work anyway.

"you've mastered it!!"

submission: RaidenX
date: June 23, 2005

I remember a while ago, playing and reviewing your other Raiden IIS - Part A title. Saying how the 'purple' weapon wasn't like it was in the arcades but you compensated well. Your reply was that it was SHOCKINGLY DIFFICULT (as I could imagine) to program such a weapon... now just some months down the track HERE YOU ARE!!!!

From a creative point of view... it's not original.. but that wasn't the point here... it was merely the achievement of something remarkable in terms of programming! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID IT!!

Fantastic stuff!

P.S. Only thing is mayb some of the bg's were a lil 'rushed' and that it was a bit too easy.
Too bad you're not making an 'Ikaruga' game for flash... you heard of that game b4? hahaah

Author's Response:

Thanks a lot. ^ ^ The plasma script took me one week of experiment and glitch-fixing, and I guess it payed off at the end. Lol memories. =D

About the backgrounds, I can make them as beautiful as I want, but the limitation is the demand on CPU. Flash overreacts to intensive graphics (you must've experienced this - Takamori legend!) and generally slows down the game, so I optimised them.

As you realised, I guess I've mastered my 2D shoot-em-up skills (finally!). Next game I'll do might be rpg, action, puzzle... well I don't know yet!

We Are Robots - Geekbot

"totally underrated"

date: March 15, 2005

i can't believe the mark is so low for this top-notch flash!
it was ACTUALLI FUNNY, compared to other comedies on NG that aren't funni at all. This also had great graphics...another thing that made this a far superior piece than the others.

Oh well..hopefully the mark rises later. You deserve better recognition for your work. Keep em coming!

"excellent stuff"

submission: -Play-
date: February 28, 2005

I was going to email you the other day...about those Storybook flashes...lol I thought they were fantastic and I would've asked you to make more!!! hahah

But anyway... interesting piece about how we 'play' with life. It's obvious that you traced the outline of a video recording...but I don't care...who does? It rocks what you did with it!
I felt the music got a tad repeatative towards the end...i was kinda expecting more instruments...but yeah..it doesn't really matter so much b/c the overall effect of watching this flash was very REFRESHING and original.
For that I give you a 10!

Great stuff!

"hahah"

date: January 5, 2005

You're funny, it's rare to find an artist who knows his movie doesn't deserve no.1 and openly says so ahhaah....so modest! haha
But don't you worry, the hordes of 'prowlies' fans will be sure to put justice back into the system and vote your submission '0' 5 million times just to make sure the rightful king returns to his throne = )

With that said I thought your drawings were EXCELLENT! Great detail and she was cute and all = )
The animation side could've been improved perhaps but you probably know the flaws of your movie yourself. Every author knows the flaws of his movie = )

Well rest assured, your no. 1 spot in the portal will be short lived (as was mine)
I say...enjoy it while it lasts = )

Author's Response:

Haha..you're looking at one of those prowlies fans. I'm flattered about the #1, but its so obvious that this is not deserving. (at least, to experienced flash artists.) :)

submission: Reality Lost

I absolutely loved the 3Dish f-b-f camera rotation of the girl near the end! Some of the best frame-by-frame motions I've ever seen! Towards the end...the fight was just absolutely awesome..so clean cut... = )
I really hope you make the movie! Can't wait!

Voted 5 of course = )

Blackmaze are lucky to have you = )
